What will I Learn?

The PADI Basic mermaid course consists of knowledge development which supports a confined water (pool) skill development session to introduce the fun of fundamental mermaid diving. The course will cover the background and culture, primary safety considerations, equipment and basic water skills of mermaid diving. The course has two phases:

  • Independant knowledge development using  PADI Mermaiding eLearning (your instructor may conduct class sessions if not available in your language).
  • A confined water session to learn and practice basic mermaiding skills, problem prevention and handling and how to make mermaid dives.                                                                                                  The session will include:
  • Performing a warm up, preparing equipment and donning correctly, demonstrating proper water entry and adjusting weighting to float comfortably on the surface.
  • Swim on the surface at least 25m with dolphin kicks in both face down and backward orientation.
  • Demonstrate proper mermaid rescue skills and buddy procedures.
  • Execute a mermaid dive correctly displaying proper breathing technique, duck dive, equalisation, no-mask underwater dolphin kick swim in a straight line.
